Our Story

Asociacion Mayab was founded in 2004 by a group of Maya immigrants concerned about the gradual decline of the language and values of their rich ancient culture amongst the youngest members of their community. The Asociacion Mayab is dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Maya culture and language through educational programs, youth leadership development, and community outreach. Today, the Asociacion Mayab continues to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the estimated 80,000 Maya immigrants living in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a strong commitment to the future of Maya culture, the Asociacion Mayab is working to ensure that the traditions of the Maya people will be passed on for generations to come.
